PostSubject: NWASAC Two Day Open report   December 14th 2009, 22:27

We had a really good couple of days with 100 anglers per day taking part giving us a prize fund of over £4,000, enabling us to pay out 39 prizes ranging from £50 to £500.
Many thanks once again to the Otterspool Pub for the use of the premises as the headquarters.
The main catches over the 2 days were Codling as the Whiting did not really show in great numbers as we expected, especially as conditions were ideal for them, but then ‘that’s fishing’.
Unfortunately we had 2 mishaps, Trevor Osbourne had to pack up early on day one before he lost too much blood from his finger that refused to clot, and luckily he returned to fish next day.
Mark Allanson needed attention from are first aider after ripping his thumb open on a bungee hook, but being the little / large soldier he is, he continued on and came a creditable 6th in zone.
Day 2 as I was pegged next to an elderly bloke that was fairly new to shore fishing. After he introduced himself we got talking, he told me he had blanked the day before. Asking a few questions to find out why I discovered he only had Blueys for bait, a couple of boom rigs and 7oz spikes, which was unsuitable for catching the main stay of Codling. Giving him half my bait, small leads and a couple of rigs I explained what I would do and were I thought he should cast. What a lovely feeling for me when he caught a fish 1st cast and you should of seen his face, to the detriment of my own fishing I kept an eye on him and he caught 8 fish in all, it was the highlight of my weekend and probably his too, I hope.
Michael Brookes a NW junior angler had an amazing couple of days with 31 fish for 740cm on day 1, giving him a day win. Sunday he came 5th in zone which gave him a total of 6points over 2 days making him 7th overall. This was a fantastic result fishing against some of the counties finest including 22 internationals of which 4 were women. Earlier this year Michael was accepted for the England squad and hopefully next year will be selected for a team to represent England.
